The female trio—Dumsile Manana, Buselaphi Gxowa, and Nokwazi Ntuli—grew up immersed in traditional culture and drew inspiration from renowned female Maskandi artists like Amatshitshi Amhlope. Known for their unique sound, Imithente continuously innovates. Their 2006 album, "IGAZ'ELIBABAYO," features a trumpet—a fresh twist to the classic Maskandi blend of concertinas, guitars, and drums. Their music reflects everyday life and addresses the challenges faced by South African women.
