The Because Music label was launched in Paris in 2004 and achieved global success with “Dimanche à Bamako”, an album by Amadou & Mariam. The catalogue expanded with Keziah Jones, Manu Chao and Les Rita Mitsouko, followed by the signing of Charlotte Gainsbourg. Because also signed a partnership with the Parisian electronic music label Ed Banger (Justice, Sebastian, Breakbot and Myd). In 2005, Because Group opened a branch in London and signed international artists such as Metronomy and Django Django. This international position was reinforced with hits by Diplo and Major Lazer, as well as the breakthrough success of Christine and the Queens. This year, the label is pursuing its strategy, signing promising artists (Shygirl, Logic1000, Alewya, Crystal Murray, Timothée Joly and Joysad). Because is strengthening its foothold in hip-hop music with the new Booba-sponsored label La Piraterie Music, the Art de Rue project in 2020, and the signing of belgian rapper Shay in April 2021.
